Stefan Idstam of SWOSU Golf and Taya Haney of SWOSU Softball have been tabbed as the newest members of the Bulldog of the Week recipients after their performances last week. The honor is brought to you by Wright Wradio, the home of SWOSU Athletics on the dial where you can listen to the Dawgs on 95.5 ‘The Coyote.’
Haney (Leedey, Okla.) had a great showing against the No. 4-ranked Southern Arkansas Muleriders over the weekend despite going winless against the top ranked team in the GAC, performing well both in the circle and at the plate. The senior threw 12.1 innings in two games while allowing four total runs, highlighted by the complete game she threw in Saturday’s opening game where she held Southern Arkansas to just one run in a 1-0 loss. In that game, Haney struck out eight against the conference’s top hitting team – the most strikeouts she has tallied in a game this season. Offensively, she totaled at least one hit in every game of the series and ended the final game with her only multi-hit performance where she doubled twice and drove in a run.
Idstam (Marifred, Sweden) finished fifth overall at the Dave Falconer Classic last week played in Danville, Ark. at the Chamberlyne Country Club. The senior shot an even par for the tournament after shooting scores of 71 (-1) and 73 (+1). It was his best finish of the spring season so far after getting off to a slow start in the Rattler Invitational back on February 20-21 in San Antonio, Texas. The Bulldogs as a team finished seventh for the second-consecutive event by ending with a shot total of 599. Idstam and the rest of the Dawgs will be back on the course Monday and Tuesday (March 20-21) at the UCO Classic in Oklahoma City.
Wake up with Van and Jon
