SWOSU Women’s Basketball and Rodeo receives recognition this week as Katie Percival and Stacey Bailey have been awarded the newest Bulldogs of the Week honor. The award is brought to you by Wright Wradio where you can listen to SWOSU Athletics on the dial on 95.5 ‘The Coyote.’
Percival (Calumet, Okla.) scored a career high in points against Oklahoma Baptist last Thursday, tallying 11 points in a very efficient fashion for the Lady Bulldogs. The sophomore connected on 75% (3-for-4) of her shots beyond the arc against OBU while adding a layup to her total to finish the evening with her first double-digit scoring mark of the season and her career. The SWOSU reserve managed to score her points in 14 minutes on the floor, her third highest minute total of the season and was one of four Dawgs on the night to surpass the 10-point scoring total. SWOSU would go on to win the game 87-59 and solidify their spot in the GAC Postseason Tournament that will be held in Bartlesville, Okla. starting on March 2. The Lady Bulldogs will need Percival and the rest of the SWOSU reserves in the final week of the regular season and into the tournament as the Dawgs’ look to position themselves with a high tournament seed and make a run to a tournament championship.
Bailey (Cherokee, Okla.) was named the Women’s All-Around Cowgirl at the Kansas State Rodeo this past weekend. The senior won both the goat tying and barrel racing events, helping lead the SWOSU Women’s Rodeo team to a first-place finish in their opening performance of the spring season. Bailey collected 170 points after posting consistent times of 6.2 and 6.3 seconds in goat tying, winning the long round and the average while finishing second in the short go. In barrel racing, she was third in both rounds with identical times of 12.63 seconds, which allowed her to win the average by a short margin. Bailey was responsible for nearly half of the SWOSU women’s points, finishing with 310 to her credit out of the 635 that the Bulldogs accumulated as a squad. Bailey and the rest of the team will look to keep the momentum from the win and improve even further when they head to Fort Scott, Kansas to compete in their second rodeo of the spring starting on Friday, March 3 through Sunday, March 5.
